Were you here yesterday? Did you see the exciting news? I'm this week's Growing in Unity gal... which means you have a chance to win a prize from Unity simply by commenting on any/all of my Growing in Unity blog posts this week.
I mentioned yesterday that each of my Growing in Unity cards this week will feature Unity stamps that remind me of our daughter Brittney. What I didn't mention is that one of the reasons I got into cardmaking years ago was so I could make cards to send to Brittney.
She went to college 630 miles from home. That felt like a huge distance to this mama. I was proud of her and knew she was in a good school for her, but it was still a long way from home. Add to that, most of the students in her small college went home on weekends, but Brittney couldn't do that. She was only able to get home for major holidays and college breaks. Therefore I committed to sending her a card three times a week, most of them homemade.
The campus post office once told her that she got more mail than any of the students. Not surprising at all.
Today's card reminds me of Brittney's commitment to work toward what she wanted in life. Not just a college degree (English education), but a few years later when she decided she wanted to teach Special Education in an Eskimo village in Alaska, she made that happen, too, through a Skype interview. She'd never been to Alaska when she took that position.
Unity's Dream of Being stamp set not only shows Brittney's effort to work toward her dreams, I also like that the image is holding a steaming cup of coffee, Brittney's favorite beverage.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Love this! My son is an optician in Alaska and I visited him there for the first time last summer. Have you been there? It's as beautiful as your card :)

We loved Alaska (and I'm a native So. Floridian!!) and I really admire your daughter. My sister taught special ed here. It takes a very special person to be able to do that. <3 Your card is simply wonderful.
