Hot Mess - Take 43

It's the 12th of February, time to get messy. (insert deer-in-the-headlight look) As you likely recall from previous 12ths, I am not one who likes messes. Not one bit. BUT a challenge is only a challenge if it stretches you, and I'm up for the Hot Mess Success Challenge. 

Barb, Carol, Darlene, Terry, and I create cards for the Hot Mess Success challenge each month and share them on the 12th. 

It's Anything Goes - as long as there is something messy involved.

For this month's card, I decided to try to do some experimenting. I'm pretty sure there's some video tutorial for this out there somewhere, but I don't very often go to YouTube (I know, you probably love YouTube, but that's just not something I've gotten into... at least not yet. My motto is to try it first and if all else fails, search for a tutorial. LOL!)

Anyway, I got to thinking about those messy MESSY bursting color types of powders that I have in my stash. I've used them before with water and love the look, even if I'm not fond of the mess. 

They are a dry powder but react to water, so why wouldn't they react to other liquids, like liquid watercolors. I gave it a try.

First I dropped liquid watercolor onto a piece of plastic (discarded packaging) and then smooched it onto watercolor paper. Before allowing it to dry, I scattered/poofed two different color bursting powders and watched as they reacted to the smooched paper.

The first attempt was really bright so I took that piece of smooched plastic and without adding any more watercolor to it, I repeated the process on another piece of watercolor paper. The first attempt is on the right and the second on the left.

Now, lest you think I have an idea for this card, think again. At this point I was only experimenting and had no idea where I was going. So I set the papers aside to dry, fixed supper, ate, and cleaned up... then came back to my Play Room to come up with a plan.

I decided to use the brighter piece (Attempt #1) to die-cut a sentiment and the lighter piece (Attempt #2) for the background piece of a card.
