The 15th of each month is such a special day here on my blog - it's Dueling day.
Not to worry; no blood is drawn in the duel. Well, unless someone punctures themselves with a paper piercer gets a deep paper cut or some other such hazard of this hobby we love. This is actually a friendly harmless duel. That's why we are called Dueling Darlings 2.
Not sure what that is? It's a concept that my friend Kelly came up with over a decade ago - two groups, two hostesses, one theme, and lots of fun. The hostesses choose the theme and then each hostess sends a theme-appropriate kit to the other members on her team.
Each person creates a card and keeps it all a secret until the 15th, which is posting day.
This month is a bit different than our usual format. Instead of two hostesses/teams, Kelly is the ONE and ONLY hostess this month. She came up with the theme...
Gotcha Day!
Kelly sent such a fun kit but before I tell you about what's in the kit, let me explain the theme.
In Kelly's words: On this day, exactly one year ago, I rescued a kitty cat and named him Oliver. He was a sickly little thing, a white siamese with piercing blue eyes. We've come a LONG way and it's been a journey! So in honor of his (and all rescued animals that are blessed to find loving homes), your theme is Gotcha Day (the day rescued animals are adopted into their loving homes.)
This is what was in Kelly's kit:
A kitty cat stamped image (CC Designs Cat with Chickies) in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Hammermill #120 cardstock
Designer Paper: S.E.I. Crafts - Madeleine collection
Ribbon and Buttons from her stash
Altenew Enamel Dots
THANKS Kelly!
Now, let's duel...
I wanted a piece of ribbon to go on the stripe but the color of ribbon in the kit that I liked best was too wide. What's a girl to do? Use a Copic Marker and "color" the more narrow ribbon to try to re-create the color, of course.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
The only thing I used other than what was in Kelly's kit was some cardstock for the card base - SU Gray Granite. I colored with Copic Markers and used my MFT Stitched Rectangle dies, too.

How sweet! I love the vibrancy of the chickies - the yellow really makes the card pop! Super creative to color the ribbon! Thank you for allowing me to make al the kits this round to celebrate the beauty of the importance of animal rescue/adoption! :)
An adorable card Jeanette. Great idea to color the ribbon. I will have to remember that.
What a wonderful card Jeanette - love the way you coloured the ribbon and that diagonal cut in the background is so striking. A sweet image also
