RSG Changes

Normally, on the third Wednesday of each month Kelly, Barb, and I reveal our Ready, Set, Go cards, but because Wednesday was the 15th (Classy Card Ladies posts) we are posting our Ready Set Go cards today instead.

Not sure what Ready, Set, Go is? Well, it's a lot of fun! And a bit of creativity. And an extreme challenge theme.

Ready, Set, Go is an idea that Kelly came up with and she invited Barb and I to join her on the adventure. We take turns choosing the theme (this month it's my turn), but the idea is for it to be a bit more challenging than just the average theme.

Here's my challenge for this month...

It’s hard to believe that the 9/11 attack happened 20 years ago this month. It has changed us as a nation and it has most likely changed us as individuals, too. I remember in those first days after the attack, amongst the tears and frustrations, the heartache and anxiety, we gathered close to those we loved and reached out to others who were impacted by the attack, as well. Church attendance increased (briefly, at least), and people reflected more on their mortality. Neighbors checked in on neighbors. People helped one another. Life took on new meaning.

So. Many. Changes.

This month’s challenge will be about “Change”. I want you to look back at your cards from the past year or so and choose one of them as your starting point. (FYI – it will be best if you choose a card you didn’t absolutely love.) Now… I want you to make changes to that card and make it even better.

Obviously, you won’t have the same papers and such that the original card had. Sheesh! You might not even have the same stamps, though you might. Using that card as your starting point could simply mean you’ll use the same overall design (sketch).

Oh, and one more thing – please show us the “starting point” card, too (or link us to the blog post featuring it) when you post your card.

Because the third Wednesday is the 15th (CCL duel day), we’ll move our RSG posting to the following day… so I’ll look forward to seeing your cards on September 16th.

Ready, Set, Go!

I chose a card that I actually made less than a month ago for my "starting point". Here it is...

I was not happy with this card for a number of reasons. I didn't like the sentiment stamped in white on black cardstock. I would have preferred brighter colors for the flowers. There seemed to be too much space behind the flower. That's just a few things... so I decided to give it another try.

I corrected those three things on my remake, plus I added some sparkle. The ribbon has sparkle in it, so I added sparkly rhinestones to the design. I also used a glitter marker from scrapbook.com on the flowers, though I'm not sure I'm happy that I did that. It's very subtle on the two left flowers but the one on the right experienced a pen malfunction and has a bit too much glitter. Oh well. It is what it is.

I do like this card better than the original one.

Be sure to check out Barb's blog and Kelly's blog to see what they did with this Ready Set Go theme!

  2. Such a moment to reflect on and to think of at this time of year (it was almost my son's birthday!) and a great way to incorporate change - both of your cards are beautiful, wouldn't change a thing on either!
