Blue Knight - Peaceful Lake

Please Note: This is my second blog post of the day. If you're here to see my One Plus Twelve card, it is right after this post so keep scrolling... or go HERE.

Fridays are special days - who doesn't love TGIF, right? But here on my blog Fridays are also special because they are the day I get to post as a design team member for Blue Knight Rubber Stamps.

I used the Peaceful Lake stamp set to make this week's cards. This stamp set is such a beautiful scene... a peaceful lake setting complete with a boat at the lake's edge.

You can check out the stamp set in the Blue Knight Rubber Stamps store - HERE.

It was such fun to create two cards with this set, one with a clear blue sky and the other one with a sun on the horizon.

Blue Sky Card

For this card I simply stamped the image on a piece of white cardstock. I love using my Misti for stamping these larger images because I usually find I want to stamp it 2-3 times to get a good crisp image. I then had fun coloring the image with Copic Markers. For the sky, I intentionally colored with a lighter hand, giving variations in the amount of ink used, to give the sky a light tinge of cloudiness. It's not overpowering, just very subtle.

After the coloring was complete, I added a sentiment from the Blue Knight Rubber Stamps Chickadee on a Fencepost stamp set and then used a Pink Fresh Diagonal Stitched Rectangle die to cut it out.

Sun on the Horizon Card

I never know if it's a sunset or a sunrise, you decide. Whichever it is, I wanted to create a look with the sun on the horizon and reflecting in the water, too.

I started by stamping the image on white cardstock using my Misti. I also stamped it on a large Removable Label that I then fussy cut to create a mask. I left the stamp in my Misti, because I knew I would need to stamp the image again after I added color to the sky.

I also used a circle die to create a mask for the sun. I laid the masks on the stamped image and started blending the sky colors until I was satisfied with the look.

I was so disappointed when I pulled the mask away to discover that I hadn't placed it exactly right. At first I thought my work was ruined and I would need to start over.

See the white line/area between the image and the sky. UGH! But before tossing it I decided to try to fix it. Using a nearly black Copic marker, I simply colored in that line. It worked. YAY! No need to start over.

Because I had blended ink onto the top of the trees, I put the piece back in my Misti, being sure to get it snug in the corner and I stamped it again to get a good crisp image.

I finished coloring the image using my Copic markers and then used a Gina Marie Big & Little Pierced Chain die to cut it out. The black layer was cut using a My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle die.

I think it's amazing to see how one stamp looks so different depending on how it's used.
