Blue Knight Guest Designer 5.14.2021

My dad is a very patriotic man who also happens to love history. I grew up hearing his stories of heroes who have fought to keep our country safe. The American flag was one deserving of our honor, as well. He taught me that freedom is not free and that sacrifices made to ensure our freedom were significant. He seared within my mind visions of the flag flying free, holding a place of honor in the our hearts.

With that background, imagine my delight when I received the Iwo Jima stamp as part of the items sent to me when I was asked to serve as a guest designer for Blue Knight Rubber Stamps.

I am honored to spotlight this stamp today.

Card #1

I had been saving this piece of designer paper for a long time - knowing that the perfect idea would come along to use it. I only had the one piece (approximately 5" x 7") just big enough for a card. What I didn't take into consideration was the smoothness of the paper. It wasn't really slick, just very smooth. It did not want to take on the ink that I used and it took forever to dry. I almost choose to toss the piece in the trash, but after pondering a while, I decided to go ahead and make a card with it using a variety of rectangle dies and backing papers. The mottled look of the image gives it a more aged feel, but I guess that's okay.

Card #2

For my second card I purposely stamped the image first on white cardstock and then used a blending brush to add Ranger Distress Ink over the entire piece, even the stamped image. I did it in this order to give it a somewhat clouded look. In hindsight, I wonder if it would have looked better if I'd stamped on top of the distress ink, giving it a more crisp look... I'm not sure.

Card #3

On my third card I used the Blue Knight Rubber Stamps cloud stencil to make a cloudy sky on a piece of white cardstock. Once I was satisfied with it, I stamped the Iwo Jima stamp on the piece. I added a bald eagle brad from Eyelet Outlet to finish off the card.
