It's the 12th of September which means it's about to get messy on my blog. Okay, maybe not on my blog, but I did create a bit of a mess making today's card, which is as it should be.
Barb, Carol, Darlene, Kelly, Terry and I create cards for the Hot Mess Success challenge each month and share them on the 12th.
It's Anything Goes - as long as there is something messy involved.
Now you have to understand... this is NOT easy for me. Messes are way out of my comfort zone, which is exactly why I agreed to be part of this group. I need to stretch myself and do things that are not necessarily easy or comfortable.
Not only do I not like messes, I tend to not pay attention to messy tutorials and ideas... so deciding what to try often times leaves me scratching my head. This time I was inspired by a video I discovered on Ardyth's blog (I love the name of her blog, BTW, and what it stands for!). She shared some different ideas to use the Swink technique. Check out her blog post - HERE.
She had several ideas, but I decided to try creating a background using the Negative Impression of the stencil. First I swiped ink directly from the ink pad across the Tim Holtz Doily stencil. Then I spritzed water onto the stencil and pressed it onto a clean piece of cardstock, expecting to see the negative of the doily. Wrong! All I saw was spots - lots and lots of spots.
i. can. work. with. spots.
Some die-cutting and blending ink onto the edges of the pieces and I'm off, creating a messy card.
I would definitely do some things differently if I were making this card again - for instance, I'd place the leaves to the right instead of down and I would eliminate the right-hand black/white strip piece. Oh well.
That's okay. I still managed to get messy and not stress out too much doing so. That's a win for this month's Hot Mess Success!

I think this card is so pretty--I love the colors you picked and the background is cool!
What a great card Jenaette. I love your mess. Thank you also for posting where you got the new technique. It looks like a mess I would like to try. Your card is wonderful and I love the layout. Great job!!!
Love this card!!! Maybe this is what I should try next month! I actually think the black and white striped accents. Very eye catching! Nicely done!!
I tried that too, using a stencil I had inked through, and got the same result... love how you have used the dotty result though - that is one beautiful card Jeanette
