A Color Burst Mess

The Crafters of Faith have a monthly challenge (we take turns choosing the Scripture/Theme) and we share our creations on the 7th of each month. Today is the 7th so it's time to share this month's card.

I am actually super excited to see what the other Crafters of Faith made this month... because it's MY month. As this month's hostess, I got to choose the Scripture/theme.

Scripture: Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Challenge: This has long been one of my favorite Bible verses because it reminds me that I can do things in God’s power. I do not need to be fearful. God will equip me. For this month’s challenge, I’d like you to think of some paper-crafting technique, fold, or some other thing that you’ve been fearful of trying and let go of the fear and give it a try! (And no, that's not what I think Phil. 4:13 is speaking of, just in case you wondered.)

I have been admiring what others do with Ken Oliver Color Burst Powders (and similar products) and though I have a couple of colors (and have had them for a VERY l-o-n-g time) after one attempt or two using them, I've been too intimidated to try again. This theme was the theme to break that pattern. EEK!

I dropped some powder onto 120# White CS (should I have used watercolor paper instead?) and then spritzed it with water. I should have taken a picture at that stage but I didn't think to do so. It looked okay but not as much coverage as I thought there would be.... so I tried again. The second attempt was better, but then I decided to add some pizzazz to the first one and see where it took me.

Yep, I had no real plan for this card as I started. 

I used my Tim Holtz Bubble stencil and a putty knife to add some of the Picket Fence Paper Glaze to the left side of the piece. 

Big. mistake. (Again, I didn't think to take a picture.)

The glaze was too much - it overwhelmed the rest of the card. Being a person who believes "mistakes" can become the beginnings of something wonderful, I took the same putty knife and swiped off the bulk of the Picket Fence Paper Glaze, not knowing how that would turn out but hey, I wasn't going to use it as it was, so no worries.

I actually liked the look. See the subtle bubbles? That's where the glaze was. And of course as I swiped it off, the color spread. It's shiny and colorful... and I kind of like it. 

After it had dried I then had to figure out what to do with it. I did't want to cover it up very much, so I decided to go with die-cut sentiment and minimal embellishments, but first, just for fun, I ran the piece through a lacy looking rectangle die.

I had so much fun with this trial and error process. I might be in love with my two Ken Oliver Color Burst Powders now.... hmmm... might need to consider purchasing a few more colors in the future.

I sure hope the ladies like my card - and that they had fun with my theme!
