I've committed to doing a quarterly series (personal challenge) this year. For this quarter (April - June) the series is what I'm calling Flea Market Flip. The idea is to find an item at a yard sale, thrift store, even out of the trash and use it on a card.... but the item needs to be something that was not created for the purpose of cardmaking or paper-crafting.
Today's item is a
set of adhesive bathtub appliques:
Cost: 5 cents
Found at a yard sale
These are actually quite old - and the stickiness is almost gone, which made them the ideal thing for masking and stamping since they would be easy to remove after I was finished with them.
In the picture below the owl applique pieces are still attached after I carefully sponged ink onto the piece. I neglected to get a picture of the first step in which I did not attach the smaller (inside) pieces of the owls to my piece of cardstock. After I added brown ink to those openings I added the little pieces to the holes and then sponged blue ink all around the owls.
The right owl has
some of the masking pieces removed:
In this picture, all of the masking pieces
have been removed:
Then it was time to design the card and put it together. Every owl needs a branch to sit on, right? The branch is a stamp from an older Unity stamp set called Owl Always Love You. This is actually one of the first Unity stamp sets I purchased - before I really even knew anything about Unity. I bought the set used, not directly from Unity. But... the set is still available in the Unity store, which is a true testimony of how popular Unity stamps are.
Here's a closeup that shows the leaf brads:
The sentiment inside the card is from
Unity's Hoot of a Day stamp set.
(Unfortunately, it is no longer available)
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
I hope you enjoyed my Flea Market Flip card.
