Don't Just Read the Newspaper

It's the third Wednesday of February... third Wednesdays are the BEST! Why? Because they are Ready, Set, Go! days. Kelly, Barb and I take turns coming up with a more challenging than normal Challenge Theme... and we three all create a card to share on the third Wednesday of the month.

This month it was Kelly's turn to choose the theme.

For the February Ready, Set, Go Challenge, I am channeling my son's recent trip to New York ♥

While he was gone, I kept singing "New York New York ...." by Sinatra, especially the line start spreading the news .... and I thought "Oh yes, that's something we haven't done before ... play with newspaper!"

So your challenge is to use newspaper somewhere/somehow on your card .... literally!  (haha, no pun intended!)  Use a small or large piece, up to you,  but it should be the main focus when we see your card and say "Oh, newspaper!"  on your card!  There are a TON of ways to use it creativity and make some headline news.

Ready, Set, GO!

(As always, there's a 'hall pass' ~ if you absolutely cannot figure it out, as the object is to enjoy and have fun with the cards, just use a stamped image of a newspaper if you need to.)

You notice, Kelly also gave us a hall pass... but I didn't want to use it because what fun is there in that, right?

Now, I have to say - this theme is AWESOME, so please don't think it isn't. My card, on the other hand, is pretty plain... okay, way too B-O-R-I-N-G!

We live in a tiny town and do not take the local news-less paper, so the only paper in my house was The Illinois Baptist from February 11th. Okay, that will do.

I perused the paper. BTW, there were some GREAT articles in it including one in first-person narrative about a pastor who almost didn't live until birth. His 15-year-old mother stood up to her family and went into the foster care program in order to avoid an abortion. WOW!

As I scrutinized the paper for ways to use it on this RSG card, I saw an article about a long-established church that has just relocated and moved into their new building - the very same church/building that my family toured this past Saturday as part of their Open House. An idea was born. Why not make a card that I can mail to them, congratulating them on their new building?

I used the church picture that was in the article as a "focal point" for my card. I stamped out little Flowers using the SU Flowers and Stars Punch. I layered some of them on CS but the three I used for my weathered flower (bottom right corner) were not layered on CS. I sponged Distress Ink onto those three to give them more color.

Okay... that's about all I came up with for my newspaper card - nothing to write headlines about, for sure. But let's head over to Kelly's blog and Barb's blog to see what they made. I'm sure it will be impressive!
