Dueling Darlings Time
I am a Dueling Darling... and proud to be one. Each month, two of us are hostesses, one for the Divas and the other for the Dazzlers. The hostesses decide on a theme together, then they individually put together card kits for their respective team members. We all create with the kits and post our cards on the 15th of the month.
We've been doing this for a few years now and it is amazing to me how the hostesses always manage to come up with a theme that hasn't been used before.
I love the Dueling Darlings!
This month's hostesses are Tami (Divas) and Terry L (Dazzlers).
Now, up to this point you may be wondering why that first picture on this post. After all, it is a small communion cup. My husband actually brought this particular one home from Israel.
Well... Tami and Terry's theme is Wine... and I am a Southern Baptist. We don't drink. In fact, we don't even use wine in our communion cups. We use "Baptist Wine" which is merely grape juice. So making a wine-themed card is just a wee bit funny for me.
But I am always up for a good challenge... and I had fun making my card. I'm just glad Terry and Tami didn't ask us to share our favorite wine story. LOL!
THANK YOU for sending such a nice kit, Terry!
Terry's kit included the following items...
Images/Sentiments: Art Impressions "Wine Divas" and MFT "Uncorked"
Papers: Paper Studio
Embellishments: Celebrate It Ribbon, Recollections and Paper Studio Gems, Michael's and Got Flowers Flowers, and White Twine from her stash
The only thing of my own that I used in creating the card was some black and red card stock.
But wait! I do have a wine story...
This isn't the exact cup - this one actually came from Kazakstan, where it was handmade and given to me during my mission trip there. But the story I share is also from the mission trip. They had communion in one of the churches during my time there. The Baptist Wine there is really wine. And they use a common cup. So the servers would wipe the edge of the cup and then turn it slightly when they handed it to you, so that you wouldn't be sipping in exactly in the same spot as the person before you.
There is a picture somewhere - I tried to find it, but was unsuccessfully - of me holding that cup of wine, with a reflective look on my face. I was quite moved by the communion experience. But the leader of the team teased me relentlessly saying I was sure looking intently at that wine. Her teasing was all in good fun. And no, I didn't guzzle... just a little sip.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Great card Jeanette...I like your crooked dsp inside...like someone drinking wine and stamping might do., thanks for sharing pics of your communion cups!
What a fun design for your card Jeanette. And a fun story to share too. You did an awesome job with Terri's kit.
I love your card inside and out. I love the papers you chose and the layout. I love that on the inside your red and white paper is at an angle. You are such an ispiration. And, I this it is a bit funny as well that you are making wine cards.
Loving your card- despite the fact that you do not indulge . I have to admit, love me some red : ) Your stories are fabulous and you have had some amazing experiences!
"This is a cup of my blood- do this in memory of me! We Catholics have wine in a cup as you experienced- but believe when the priest prays over it it becomes the body, blood soul and divinity of Jesus Christ! Google Eucharist Miracles : )
Oh Jeanette I understand your story - I was brought up Anglican (Episcopalian) and we used real wine from a common cup, but as a Baptist now, we have Baptist Wine, as you so neatly call it, in individual cups. Love the wee one from Israel, and the other is a beautiful one too.
Your card is a delight, not only a beautifully coloured and mounted image, but I love your inside too!
Blessings
Maxine
Jeanette--your card is too cute. I loved reading your story and the cup is so cute! Great Job!
Those cups you have are amazing! That 'lil one DH brought back is so cool. I have had the 'common cup' communion experiences and I had to block out the 'everyone is drinking out of this cup' from my head and think about why we were doing it in the first place.
Your card layout is so great. I really like the red on red DPs together and I don't know about you, but look like they are glasses of Baptist Wine to me!
Awe Jeanette, I love your wine story! That is the way our church does it too. Love your card, and thank you for playing along!
Love your card Jeannette - So well colored.
I do not drink wine either - although it is served at our church (ELCA). We also have a non-wine choice & I usually take that for communion. Thank you for sharing your church traditions. It's always interesting to learn how many different variations of communion there is.
Hugs ~ LJ
John's Eucharist was the title of our Presbyterian sermon on Sunday! We also use Baptist wine in our communion services!
