Falliday Fest on SCS is a great way to get myself out of my normal style of card-making, which is a good thing. Following the guidelines of each challenge makes me try new things, look at some of my toys that haven't been used in a while, and just go with it, in some cases.
Of the five cards on this blog post, I'd say only one of them looks remotely like my normal style. And that is okay.
Falliday Challenge #22
Coat of Many Colors
Kelli challenged us to use a variety of different papers to create a card of many colors. I don't have a lot of colors on my card - but I did use several different scraps of yellow DP on it.

Falliday Challenge # 23
Cloudy Day
Chris challenged us to use water-based ink to stamp our image on watercolor paper and then to spritz it. This technique causes the ink the spread, which is a lovely feature, if you spritz it just right. LOL! Not too much; not too little.
I kind of like the way the ink spread:

Falliday Challenge #24
ALL CAPS
Edna challenged us to make bold statements of encouragement by using all caps (words) on our cards. This stumped me for a bit... then I dug through my DP stash and found a perfect paper. After that, this card went together very quickly.
It doesn't really show up in the photos,
but this matted "become it" is popped up off of the card:

Falliday Challenge #25
All Tricks, No Treats
Kathleen asked us to create a Halloween or Christmas card that in some way showed our favorite candy of the holidays. My favorite is fudge - love it! - but I couldn't find anything in my crafting supplies to depict fudge. Instead I went with what might be the most well-known Christmas candy of all - the candy cane.
I stamped onto Recollections Shimmer paper and to continue that shimmery look, instead of coloring with Copics, as I normally do, I colored with a Spectrum Noir Sparkle Marker and a Zig Wink of Stella Marker.

Falliday Challenge #26
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Patty gave us a challenge - the first part was easy. Create a mostly black, grey and white card with just a touch of soft peach/pink. Then... oh then... she showed us the poster from The Nightmare Before Christmas and told us to let it inspire us as we made our card.
I've never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas and to be truthful, I don't really want to. Sorry! And the poster is very artsy - which I'm not - so that challenged me a bit, too.
Bit I took on the challenge and thought it turned out okay, all except for one thing.
The one thing - see those pink elements. I was trying to create the illusion of clouds drifting across the moon. That was the second thing I did on this card front. First I sponged the grey ink onto a piece of white card stock while masking a circle for the moon. As I added the "clouds" I thought to myself - That looks pretty good. Hmmmmmm... Then I went to add the deer, which I had planned to do all along. That's when I discovered that the pink cloud on the lower part of the moon ended up looking like a bloody wound on the deer. EEK! Not the look I was going for at all. But rather than starting over, I just embraced it.

Hi, Jeanette. Always a pleasure to see what you have been creating. We served on the Pinspirational Challenge team and maybe Deedee's Digis. I purchased the 50 Truths book. I guess I need to sit down with a calendar and break down when to read what. Thanks for the inspiration! kReN@afourthlife
ReplyDeleteAnother great set of cards!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful cards Jeanette - the pink cloud on the deer that you think went wrong, could be the nightmare part of the challenge?? :-). Love that deer stamp, and the sprayed die stamping is gorgeous.
