Joy Report with a Fight

This week has been a week. Some weeks are like that. But I am choosing joy! 'Nuf said. ;) Let's move on. Next week will be a better week.

Oh, and for those who are curious, I made 7 cards this week.

As has been my practice this year, I read a chapter the book 50 Truths Worth Knowing and then used it as the basis for a card. I refer to this as my personal 50 Truths Worth Knowing challenge. This week it stretched me a bit. I was stumped as to what to do with this story/chapter. It might very well have been the most challenging chapter/week of the entire challenge.

But I'm always up for a challenge... so I embraced this one, too.

50 Truths Worth Knowing

It Pays to Approach New Things With an Open Mind

Laura was a 36-year-old with one child. Her doctor said it was time for her to schedule her first ever "routine" mammogram. A writer by profession who specialized in health-related topics, Laura didn't hesitate one bit. She didn't necessarily look forward to the test, but she wasn't apprehensive either.

Until.

Female friends and family members, upon learning of her upcoming test, proceeded to tell her horror stories, give her unsolicited advice, and tried to prepare her for the "pain, pressure, and personal humiliation" she would surely experience.

Laura laid awake at night, wondering if she should be apprehensive... and then she was apprehensive.

Until.

She remembered being inundated with similar tales, concerns, and warnings when she was expecting her child... and in reality, while delivery was not pleasant, it was not awful either. People were well-meaning, but they might not be right.

When the time came Laura calmly went for her mammogram and found that the experience wasn't great, but it wasn't awful either.

Yes, approaching new things with an open mind is important. Laura hopes she'll be able to have the same positive attitude when attends her upcoming class reunion.
