For the Dogs

If you haven't yet checked out the new {PIN}Spirational Challenge, be sure to scroll down to my next blog post, too, for information about it... or click HERE to go directly to that blog post.

Now, let's get our DUEL on. Our Dueling Darling Duel, that is. Carol (Divas) and Shelly (Dazzlers) are the hostess this month... so they put their heads together and came up with a theme. Then they mailed kits to their respective team members. (I'm a Dazzler, so I received Shelly's kit). Now the fun of showing what we made is here... so be sure to check out the other Dueling Darling blogs, too. The links are in my left sidebar.

Rather than going with a traditional St Patrick's Day holiday/theme, Carol and Shelly searched the weird holidays for March and discovered that the 10-13  is Crufts (the world’s largest dog show) and National Puppy day is March 23rd.....so they chose the theme…

For the Dogs

Here's the card I made:

I'm not very happy with the card overall, but I do love the way I fastened the double-heart charm through the button with the baker's twine.

Here's the inside of my card:

Shelly and Carol gave us a "bonus question" to answer on our blogs (optional) - Did we have a pet growing up, and if so what kind and what was its name.

Well, you may know that my husband and I have never had a pet (our daughter feels we slighted her tremendously because of that!) so it might surprise you to know that I actually grew up with an abundance of pets. We moved - often - as in, every 3-6 months - so having pets should have been almost too much effort, but that didn't stop us. First we had cats, well, I should say kittens... one after another after another. It seemed we weren't very good at keeping them. The one that was around perhaps the longest was a fun-loving little white kitten named Boo Boo. He loved empty cigarette wrappers and would play with them all the time. After he died we found cigarette wrappers for weeks afterwards - well, until our next move - and it always made us a little sad.

Then, when I was about 9-10 years old my parents decided to raise/sell toy poodles.............. so we got into that. We had 5 that we "kept" and then we'd sell babies. My dog was named Jamie Rascal... and he certainly WAS a rascal. He had so much personality.

When I was in High School, my last pet came into my life - Sonny. Sonny was a registered poodle, but he shouldn't have been. Poodles are supposed to be as tall as they are long... but he was short for his height. He also didn't know that poodles are thought to be somewhat "dignified" pets... he was a farm dog. He loved - LOVED - adventures on the small farm my parents had purchased by that time (and yes, we'd stopped moving). He and Lindy, the outdoor farm dog, could be heard yelping all over the back 40... chasing whatever they happened to find. Because Sonny was short, he'd dart into the thick of things and draw out whatever prey they encountered and then they'd go for a fun race. Well, until the day they encountered a SKUNK! Yes, you know it happened... and no, tomato juice doesn't completely get rid of the smell.

Oh, and about Lindy, the farm dog. She was fixed so she would never have puppies, but she had such a mothering instinct... so to fulfill her desire for puppies, she'd wander up the hill to the neighbor's farm and pick up a baby chick - carefully! - and bring it home with her. She'd put it in her elevated food dish, so it couldn't get away and she'd fondle it and love it... until we discovered it and then we'd call the neighbors and say we were bringing their chick home again. I can't tell you the number of times that happened.

Sooooooooooooo... yes, I have pet stories. (Brittney, I'm sorry you had to wait until you were an adult and could create your own stories, but hopefully Barrow is fulfilling that dream for you now).

 Isn't Barrow adorable???

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

NOTE: All of the items for this card were provided in Shelly's kit except for some cardstock (Stampin' UP! Really Rust and Navy from an unknown vendor) THANK YOU, SHELLY!

I don't know the details of Shelly's kit, but I do recognize the stamped images - Stampin' UP! Bow Wow.
