What's my Job?

Today is a very special day!

February 9, 2014

Carriers of Faith
Monthly Blog Hop

Each month the Carriers of Faith has a special blog hop to share on the 9th. If you came to my blog from Zella's blog, you are  in the right spot. If you are just here - because you love me!!! - and want to do the whole hop, please go to Barb's blog to get started.

This month's hostess is Barb and even though she's away right now - on vacation in Hawaii - POOR BARB! - she was prepared and gave us the theme well in advance so we wouldn't be late.

Here's Barb's theme:

February Challenge Colossians 3:23 --Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
The Living Bible version-- --Work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord and not merely for your masters

I think we all work hard at many things in life--so I want to challenge you to think of what you might work hard at, but cheerfully. You can take this a few ways:

~Perhaps--you can take a picture of what you would do as a career, if you could "be anything you want to be" when "you grow up". The sky is the limit--no restrictions at all. What is a job you would love to have?

~Or--look around and see what you love to do in life. It could be cooking, or crafting, or gardening, or reading, or whatever....... What do you do that always puts a smile on your face or gets you in a good mood?

~Maybe--you have a different thought of what this passages says to you. Please feel free to share.

Tell us how this verse rings true to you. Be ready to post on February 9th.

I really had to think about this. What is my work? What do I do that brings me great joy???

I am a wife and mother - both full time jobs that require cooking, cleaning, laundry, conversing, nurturing, encouraging, and so much more.
I LOVE THIS JOB!

I am a pastor's wife (yes, I do think that's different than a being a wife in any other profession) - that means I get the joy of serving alongside my husband in our church setting. It is without benefit of a personal salary, but the rewards are so much more valuable than any sum they could pay me anyway. I get to accept the positions in our church that fit me and I also get to love on our parishioners. While I fear I often times fail them, I love teaching the oldest women's Sunday School class in our church. These ladies are the saints (female version) of our church. They are seasoned Christians who know the Bible so well. I feel unworthy to lead them, but it is a joy to be able to do so. One of my favorite "jobs" at the church though is one I happened upon accidentally. Every service, I stand at the back door and hold it open as people leave. This is actually our "main" door, since it leads to the church parking lot. That means I get to see and speak to almost every person who was in church for that service. If it hadn't been so cold and snowy, I would have taken a picture of "my door" for this blog hop... but I was a wimp and did something else instead.
I LOVE THIS JOB!

I am a design team member - when you're on as many teams as I am on, sometimes that's a full time job. LOL! It requires, creating, keeping a functional blog, commenting on entries, and so much more.
I LOVE THIS JOB!

These are just a few of the "jobs" I have. But take a look at this photo and see if you can figure out what job it represents...

What is my job?
I am a missions volunteer!

I LOVE THIS JOB!

This is the shelf that holds many of my "missions-themed" books. I use them when I'm preparing conferences (I love love LOVE leading conferences!) I use them as I research information for articles that I need to write for our state paper. I use them for inspiration as I pray for missionaries.

The notecard you see says: Illinois WMU Missions for Life. If you're not a Southern Baptist, you may not know what WMU is. It is Woman's Missionary Union, the missions organization of Southern Baptists. No, that isn't a typographical error. It is called Woman's with an "A", not Women's with an "E"... because we want to recognize the each woman is important in the cause for missions.

I've had the honor of serving in a variety of WMU volunteer roles here in the state of Illinois. I am currently our Vice President for Missions Growth - which means I get to lead conferences, write monthly articles for our newsletter, consult with churches on an as-requested basis and so much more.
I LOVE THIS JOB!

One of the highlights of my life was serving as our state WMU President (1999-2004), which also put me on the National WMU Board. I loved every moment of it.

As a missions volunteer, I also seek out opportunities to go on mission trips, and I've had many. I've been to Chattanooga, TN, where I worked with teenagers for a week. I've been to Kazakstan twice and Bulgaria twice (working with women - leading conferences, etc.). I've been to South Africa, Germany and twice to Thailand (working with children while their parents were in meetings).

I am so blessed to be a missions volunteer!

It's time to hop on over to Carol's blog now and see what she has to share. But before you go, feel free to check out the card I have posted, too. ;)

* * * * *

I know this blog post has been long... and if you're still here, I thank you. ;)

Before you leave, let me show you a card I made.

I'm doing the 100 Cards in 100 Days Challenge, and I didn't want to miss a day, since that is one of my goals.

I used a card kit to make this card. It's a card kit I received in the Seasons in the Forest Swap I hosted last year. Jess put the kit together, and since it had a bear reading a book for the image (gotta love Gruffies images!) I thought it went along with my Carriers of Faith photo.

Here's the inside of my card:

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Don't forget to hop on over to Carol's blog for the Carriers of Faith Blog Hop though. You're going to be glad you did, I'm sure! ;)

This card was made with items from a card kit, so I do not have vendor information on the products.

  5. Wonderful photo, very close to the Pin-spirational one you had up earlier but so much more personal :) I love that you are sharing Christ's love through witnessing and I know that it's touching many lives in a positive way. And indeed we moms wear many hats, bringing forth many loves! :)

    Blessings to you, COF sistah!

  6. Jeanette, you touch my heart! I use that word not in the past tenses as in your post touched my heart (which it certainly did!), but in the active sense as in you continue to touch my heart. You're such a shining example of a Christian woman!!!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us here in blog-land....you not only inspire me in crafting - but in life!
