Two days ago, our son Brock said in that emphatic voice he has, "Where's the Elf Thing?" He knew it was almost December and his mom was a bit - no, A LOT - late in getting the Christmas decorations out.
What is the Elf Thing, you ask.
Here it is:
My husband went on a mission trip to Denmark when our boys were very young (Brock was a babe in arms). The Denmark tradition is that homes display one of these calendars and every night in December, the Elf comes to the home and leaves a treat (piece of candy, small toy, coin, etc) in the pocket for the child, helping him/her count down the days until Christmas.
Every year - as long as Brock can remember - we have displayed this Elf Thing in our home and Brock gets a piece of candy every morning.
Yes, bed head is alive and well in our home. ;)
This morning, after Brock took his piece of candy out of the pocket (a Hershey's Cherry Kiss - yum!!!), he looked at me and said, "What happened?" because he was troubled by the fact that the Elf Thing no longer hung straight. LOL!
Because we love the tradition of our Elf Thing, I also love stamps with elves on them, including the Whipper Snapper stamp in today's card.
Do you suppose he's the one who put the candy in the Elf Thing for Brock???
Here's the inside:
Whatever your traditions are, I hope you will enjoy your countdown to Christmas at least almost as much as Brock will!
Image: Whipper Snapper Edward Elf
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copic Markers, and Copic Spica Pen
Cardstock: Paper Company Black and Stampin' UP! Riding Hood Red
Designer Paper: Cloud 9 Seasonal Paper Pad
Embellishment: Hobby Lobby Peppermint Ribbon
I am positive that elf left the candy! How else would you have known to color him up??
ReplyDeleteI love tradition! ESPECIALLY at Christmas time! We have a commercial Advent Calendar which I am hoping to replace with a handmade one by the end of this year (better late than never, right?).

ReplyDeleteFabulous card Jeanette! Cute, cute card and love the candy cane strips!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that Brock is maybe a little elf at heart since I know he loves Christmas so much. Very handsome young man and I know he's a joy to have around. I'd probably want one piece of candy every morning whether it was Christmas or not! Wonderful tradition!
