I first ventured into the challenge of the hunt when our children were toddlers. They were quickly (and often) outgrowing their clothes and our money was very tight (can anyone say "limited income"?) so to prevent streaking of wee ones, I turned to Yard Sales to clothe them. I soon found that I loved hunting for treasures.
The kiddos have grown up now and buy their own clothes (can anyone say "woo hoo"?) so I no longer look for clothes at Yard Sales. However, if I continue on my weight loss road of success, I may have to start looking for smaller clothes for myself. (WOO HOO!) I wouldn't want to be the one streaking! EEK! By the way, I want to thank all of you who have read of my healthier me journey and for the sweet words of encouragement and congratulations that you have offered me. It means more to me than you know! Hugs!!!
Now, back to the subject of Yard Sales and the point of today's blog post...
I've decided to challenge my Creative self this year. I've given myself this challenge - every week that I get to go to Yard Sales, I am to search for and buy something that I will use in creating a card. I will post the "find" (and what I paid for it) and the finished card on my blog. It might be an actual stamping/scrapbooking item, or it might be something that isn't specifically designed for that purpuse. Some ideas? A button off of a piece of clothing, a piece of jewelry, a toy (or part of one), a kitchen magnet, a page from a book, etc., etc. (If you have ideas of things I should look for, please let me know by posting a comment. Thanks!)
I went to my first Yard Sales this past Friday (funny thing is, there weren't any Yard Sales on Saturday this time). It was such fun... and I actually found a real paper-crafting item for this week's treasure hunt.
Sizzix Cowboy Set #1
I paid $2 for this found treasure - more money than I will normally spend, but I wanted to splurge.
Here's the card I made with my found Treasure:
I used a Wild West Anya image for my card. I don't own this stamp, but I have a friend who does and she gifted me with some images. THANK YOU, Michelle! (Love ya, General!)
I hope you've enjoyed My Yard Sale Challenge this first week. Be sure to check back next week and see what treasure I'll find.
