Christmas Memories

Christmas memories are such fun. Today’s card brought me many fond memories of my childhood.

It was customary for my family to go in search of the perfect Christmas tree about a week or so before Christmas. If we lived near a tree farm, we’d go there instead of the Christmas tree lots that sprung up all over the place in those days. Speaking of which, have you noticed how few places are selling real Christmas trees this year?

One year in particular, I remember we’d had a huge snow storm overnight, but we’d planned to go get the tree that day and my dad said, “We aren’t going to let snow stop us!” So we bundled up and got in the car and headed out for the tree farm. It was a slippery drive, but we sang Christmas carols and giggled in delight, anticipating the selection of the perfect tree. We found it! (and made it home safely, too)

I also remember what fun it was in those days throughout the month of December… because no matter where you went, you’d surely see at least one car with a Christmas tree tied on top. Its new family was going to be having some fun decorating that tree very soon.

This Riley Carrying the Tree card made me think fondly of those Christmases…. and it brought a smile to my face even as the nostalgia set in.
